A Moment of Calm, Episode Six: Balance

I’ve heard it more than once this week … "I need a vacation after my vacation". It seems the more plugged in society is, the more vigilant we need to be about slowing down and finding/creating those little moments of calm. Have you ever been stressed out on the last day of vacation or even just on a Sunday going through the seemingly endless to-do list in your head?

Well, stop right now, sister, and just breathe. BE HERE NOW. How much of your vacation and Sunday do you worry away? Life is all about balance. Why do we stress on a Sunday instead of enjoying every last single second of it? I’ll let you in on a little secret - you can’t pour from an empty cup.

I am just as guilty as the next gal: cutting my weekend short, wondering what emails have to be returned, and what appointments have to be made. I think it is almost a habit. If there was a master’s degree in overthinking, I would be valedictorian. Overthinking, worry, and stress signal an imbalance. We aren’t made to be creatures that are constantly on-the-go. This is yet another shining example of why it is so important to find your calm, to BE that calm even if all you have is one minute at a time.

Half Moon

What happens when you start to practice calm as a new habit? Slowly but surely, your Sundays get a little longer. When you create more moments of calm in your life, you start to feel more peaceful. For me, that translates to being less triggered by a cranky tween or a clumsy comment from someone at work. I heard one time that there are two kinds of tired - one that requires sleep and one that requires peace. I FELT THAT. Do you know how you start to experience more peace in your life? You build it one moment of calm at a time.

We want to empower a sisterhood of strong, balanced women, who know how to work hard and kick a**, but also who can truly experience peace. Women who understand how to work hard, play hard, and rest hard. If you are anything like me, sometimes rest and play feel like a luxury. They may be a luxury, but they’re necessary in order to create that balance and fill your cup. One minute counts. Minutes add up. Try not to get caught up in doing it all on vacation or ending your weekend early just because your work emails are piling up. The hardest, craziest workout isn’t always the most effective. Rest and balance will make you more efficient, present, and more peaceful.

Like they say, sometimes you do yoga and eat salads, some days you drink a bottle of wine and eat an entire pizza, it’s called balance!

We are here to support you so you can find and create ways to better support yourself.

In support of each other, Namaste.
