HOW TO DO A SELF BREAST EXAM

  • Stand in front of a mirror: With your shoulders straight and arms at your sides, look for any visible changes (shape, size, or color), swelling, or dimpling of the skin.
  • Raise your arms: Lift your arms and check for the same visual changes in both breasts.
  • Check for fluid: Gently squeeze your nipples to see if any fluid comes out (milky, yellow, or bloody).
  • Lie down and feel your breasts: Use the pads of your fingers to feel your entire breast in a circular motion. Press gently, then firmly, covering the entire area from the collarbone to the top of the abdomen and from the armpit to the cleavage.
  • Repeat while standing or sitting: Some women find it easier to feel changes in the shower. Repeat the circular motions while standing or sitting, covering the entire breast area.

"My mother was 27 with her first cancer diagnosis, and the tumor was the size of a golf ball by the time a doctor would give her a mammogram."
